Counsellor & Therapist
Living in a relationship
As a counsellor and psychotherapist I have worked with many people from different backgrounds, cultures and life experiences. My long involvement with families and relationships, both personally and professionally, has taught me much about the struggles and challenges that we all face at different stages of life.
For more than a decade, counselling has added an important and meaningful dimension to my life and one in which I have found my vocation. I feel privileged to be able to work with people in the way I do.
My experience and training
I began many years ago as a teacher. In this role I have worked both in Australia and overseas, teaching people from different ages, countries and professional backgrounds.
Upon returning home after living in Germany for over 10 years, I completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Jansen Newman Institute, teacher training in MBSR mindfulness and meditation, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy at the Anna Freud Centre in London and numerous short courses including Psychodynamic work and mind body work with Focusing and Radical Exposure Tapping. I also believe that neuroscience can offer new and very valuable insight into our work.
As well as private practice, I have worked with Lifeline and volunteer organisations, providing low cost counselling to people who would otherwise slip through the cracks. This has been satisfying and important work.
I am clinical member of PACFA (Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia) and a Work Cover service provider.
I have extensive experience in online counselling (video and audio calls). This means that if you are travelling interstate or overseas, unable to leave home, time poor or living in rural/regional areas, you can still access the help and support you deserve in the privacy of your own space.
My work overseas exposed me to different cultures, and to the difficulties of adjusting from one land to another. The language barrier, cultural differences and expectations are just some of the challenges I have overcome. I can speak fluent German which has been a wonderful addition to the richness of my life and learning.
Creativity has always been a part of my life and work and I completed a Masters in Creative Writing from the Institute of Technology. Being able to express myself in this way is another valuable tool in my personal development armoury.
How can I help you
In my clinical practice, I work with anxiety and depression, grief and loss, anger management, relationship breakdowns or life transitions. One of my highest priorities is confidentiality and trust in a collaborative environment.
Working as a counsellor I can help you develop strategies and techniques such as mindfulness to relieve stress, assertiveness, conflict resolution and communication skills to help you in your relationships.
Psychotherapy will explore how the past impacts your every day life and this understanding and insight will help you make lasting and effective change.
I can offer you a program called Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) which is a 16 week program designed to work with repetitive patterns. Do you often find yourself doing the same thing even though you have sworn you won’t fall into the same trap again? DIT focuses on current relationships and has very specific goals which can help to create new pathways.
I provide you a safe and non-judgmental space for change to take place.
Please be in touch when you are ready to begin that journey.
